Frequently Asked Questions
We swim all year at PPAC. The typical year runs from September to July--with only National Level swimmers competing into August. When we have room, we host a Spring into Summer Clinic program that begins at the end of April and goes until school lets out in June.
Swim meets occur every 3 to 5 weeks on the weekends. For younger swimmers to aim to keep our meets in the local Edmonton Metro area and can range from 1 to 3 days long. However, more advanced swimmer will travel throughout Alberta and Canada and attend swim meets 3 to 5 days long. With National level meets going 5 to 8 days.
During the school year, practices are during the evenings and Saturdays are in the mornings. The number of practices and exact times depend on the age and level of your child. You can view our general practice schedule under "Resources".
We require all children signing up to be able to comfortably travel one length of a 25 meter pool. If your child is not quite there yet, continue taking lesson and develop this ability. We love love love new swimmers!
Swimmers who swim at the Endeavour level come September, are eligible to swim in the Academy. 6th graders need to have qualified for Northern Summer Festival.
The cost to attend isn’t really any different than attending any other school, other than grade 6-9, where the academy is considered a school of choice--this seeking transportation from home.
A number Pirates and PSAA students live outside of the Parkland County area. Anyone can register with the Parkland School District (apply) and attend PSD schools.
The Parkland Student-Athlete Academy does offer an FI program where the Pirates have student attending.
Grades 6-9, swimmers are bused from the school to the TRI 3 to 4 days a week after lunch. Once at the Tri swimmers perform dryland, learn sport education, and swim to 4PM. Grades 10-12 swimmers will swim 4 mornings and are transported to their High School. Transportation fees are included in PPAC fees.
